 Vanessa Kelly

Vanessa is an 12-year cancer survivor. She graduated from University of Houston in 2006 with her degree in Hospitality Management. She worked long hours serving tables at a local restaurant to pay for her tuition and living expenses. Vanessa now is the Assistant Manager at San Diego Marriott.

Vanessa was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at the age of four and has gone through five years of chemotherapy. While her friends were playing and enjoying their childhood years she was holding on to her teddy bear with a single wish in her heart. "Just to get well again!" In her own words:

"I take life a little more serious than most people and I never forget what I went through. I consider myself to be a very blessed child to have survived cancer and to have parents that were very supporting. I am enjoying life and continue to because I have major goals set for myself that I will accomplish. I am very much a people person. I like helping people and interacting with people. I participate in the Cancer walks and events that they have in my area. I know that once I start my career I want to make donations to Cancer Survivors' Fund. I will do it just for them being there helping and supporting cancer survivors like me."

Vanessa will be working as a volunteer at the Ronald McDonald House to inspire children and show them there really is a life waiting for them after cancer.
